My shiny new Athlon 64 + associated gadgetry arrived a while ago, and windows has reinstalled like a dream – well easier than I thought it would be anyway. Couple of drivers proved tricky, but nothing major went wrong.
Linux, however was another story. I insisted on installing athlon 64 versions of all the software. The only distro that offers a decent amount of it is debian http://www.debian.org/ and it is so far proving itself to be quite unstable, which is understandable, as the code wasn’t written with 64 bit compatibility in mind.
X windows is the biggy tho. It highlights things using reverse video, instead of a nice coloured selection marker. Probably my fault as I don’t know enough about debian and x-windows to solve it.
If any one knows how to solve this, I may even be grateful.
Cheers, Pete.
